Hello Parents & Students!
Happy "Snow Day!"
I hope you are all enjoying your day off and hopefully we will see you back at school tomorrow! I was at a training yesterday AND had a doctor's appointment Friday afternoon so I had to leave school early. It feels like a while since I've seen all 60 of my kids!
Topics this week:
Reading: We are continuing to create goals, read uninterruptedly in class, and answer questions with our book club books! Thank you so much for supporting your child's love of reading by talking with them about their book selection.
We will be starting our Informational Reading unit this week. We are starting this unit off by asking students what they already know about Informational reading and what they hope to accomplish this unit. We will begin by reviewing text features so we can dive into reading an informational text.
Writing: We will also be starting Informational Writing. We will start by learning how organize our ideas and then write a good informational introduction paragraph. Yes, we will have movements for informational writing too! :)
Grammar: This week we will review synonyms and antonyms as we dig into reading informational texts.
**Since I left school early last Friday AND I had a training on Monday, I did not change the homework on the board last week. Since we have no school today, please have your child hold off on homework until we are all back together again.**
Reminders:
That's all for now! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns by emailing me directly at [email protected].
Have a wonderful week & stay warm!
-Hope Webster

Reminders:
- 4th grade READING AND LANGUAGE ARTS has a NEW WEBSITE! Everything we are learning about, including extra resources will be housed on this new website (for all of 4th grade.) Instead of having resources just for my class, the 4th grade Reading Team decided to spread the love! Here is the link: http://dolvin4threla.weebly.com
- HOMEWORK: Please check your child's agenda every Monday. Homework is assigned on Mondays and due on Fridays. Many students are doing an excellent job completing their work and turning it in to Google Classroom! We typically go over the grammar homework on Fridays and I noticed that some students are not bringing these back to class. Please talk with your child about being 100% Accountable for their learning! My goal is for homework to be a review of skills taught, but if it is too much, PLEASE let me know!
- iReady: Fulton County's goal is to strive for students to work on iReady for 45 minutes a week in Reading. I have started to assign this as homework (just 20 minutes at home) and we will continue to work on this program in class.
- Want to volunteer at the next Dolvin Discovery Lab? Email Karen Berry at [email protected] if you would like to help out! It's always a fun time!
- BOX TOPS: Due February 1st! The class with the most box tops will earn a SWEET VALENTINES TREAT!
- International Day is coming!
- What? A fun day spent learning about each other's cultures.
- When? February 6th from 7:30 am - 12:30 pm
- Why? Help educate our children about our world and its many diverse cultures.
Your children love to see you helping at their school!
