Hello Parents and Students!
We had a fabulous time on our field trip last week! I hope your child enjoyed it and came home to tell you all about it.
Reading: We are beginning Unit 5 which focuses on fiction. We will be reading more historical fiction based books and also reviewing skills we learned in Unit 3 and Unit 1. We will begin the Unit by reading a novel called Turn Homeward, Hannalee. We will discuss the setting, events that cause different points of view, and also dig into the different character's feelings and traits. We will use the skills we learn in our mini lessons and apply them to the book club books we are reading and in our silent reading books too!
Writing: We will begin reviewing Narrative Writing. We learned about this genre of writing in Unit 1. In this unit, our focus will be on developing a problem and solution. We will also concentrate on creating an ending to a narrative piece.
Grammar: We are reviewing adjectives: comparative and superlative and ordering adjectives. We are also learning about commonly confusing words (homophones and homographs.) For example, two, to, and too-- and there, they're and their. Your child has notes on these topics in the ELA tab of their binder.
Towards the end of the week, we will be working with helping verbs. Your child will receive a notes page on this skill as well.

- Coach Digital: Now that we are in the 2nd semester of school, many of you have asked about how you can help your child prepare for the upcoming the Georgia Milestones Assessment. Our AMAZING Dolvin Foundation purchased the rights to the Coach Digital, an electronic platform for all our students to access from home and school in order to prepare for the assessment. To access the platform, please go to www.coachdigital.com. Once there, select Georgia for the first drop down, Fulton County for the second drop down, and Dolvin Elementary for the third drop down. Your child's username is their 10-digit lunch number (which they know) and the password is 123456.
