Dear Parents & Students,
What a beautiful weekend! I hope you had a chance to enjoy the nice weather. One week until Spring Break!
Topics this week:
Reading AND Writing: Some groups are completing their books for book club. I am in the process of meeting with each child to discuss their BAS scores, lexiles, and discussing their interests for their next book! Some students are completing research to find a book that they are interesting in at their "just right level." This is awesome!! This week, ask your child what book they want to read next for book club!
This week we will begin reviewing concepts we have taught this year. We will focus on comparing and contrasting informational and literary texts and how gather inferences in both of these genres. We will also review how to find the Main Idea (and supporting details) in an Informational text and how to determine the Theme from a Literary text.
In writing, students are LOVING the Non Fiction project. Students are engaged while writing about topics they chose while incorporate the five text structures and text features. You can find their hard work on Google Classroom. We will be showing off our projects to our peers and friends on Friday!
Grammar: We are still learning about affixes. We will be learning a new affix, "tele" this week. The students have done a great job identifying these root words in their reading and also defining words that consist of these roots. We will also be reviewing topics we have previously learned this year. We will review relative pronouns and adverbs, progressive verbs, and helping & linking verbs.
Reminders:
That's all for now! I know this is the time of year where parents are starting to think of the next steps (for 5th grade.) Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns by emailing me directly at [email protected]

Hope Webster

Reminders:
- Class Picture Day is Wednesday, March 27th!
- Field Trip Permission Forms went home on Friday! Please read over these form and return back to school no later than Wednesday, March 27th. The kiddos are excited to go to the Fernbank!
- 4th grade READING AND LANGUAGE ARTS has a NEW WEBSITE! Everything we are learning about, including extra resources will be housed on this new website (for all of 4th grade.) Instead of having resources just for my class, the 4th grade Reading Team decided to spread the love! Here is the link: http://dolvin4threla.weebly.com
- iReady: Fulton County's goal is to strive for students to work on iReady for 45 minutes a week in Reading. I have started to assign this as homework (just 25 minutes at home) and we will continue to work on this program in class. I will be sending home a weekly accountability sheet that students will fill out as they are working on this program.
- CLASSROOM NEEDS: Candy! If you have any candy laying around the house that you would like to donate to our class, I would be more than happy to take it off your hands. The students love incentives!
- Want to volunteer at the next Dolvin Discovery Lab? Email Karen Berry at [email protected] if you would like to help out! It's always a fun time!
- We had an AWESOME time at Field Day last Friday! Thanks to those who volunteered and came to support!
