Can you believe there is just ONE more week before Thanksgiving Break? This year is flying by! I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving full of spending quality time with family and friends.
Here is the update for the week:
Topics:
- ELA: We have started Unit 3, which is our opinion writing unit. We will preview this unit by reading the story, "A Pig Parade." We will brainstorm topics in our writing binders and hopefully narrow down a final topic by Friday!
- We are continuing to practice commas and quotation marks and integrate these skills in our writing. After Thanksgiving break, we will concentrate on new grammar skills.
- Reading: We had a great opportunity to see Aladdin Jr. last Friday! This was a great way to preview the literary unit, drama. This week, we will continue to learn about the qualities of a prose, poem, and drama. We will also be reviewing concepts learned in Unit 1 such as character's feelings, motivations, events, and key details. We will also be identifying the theme in poems and dramas as well as practicing our summarizing skills! We will have a short quiz on Thursday about the difference between prose, drama, and poetry.
- We are creating goals and meeting in Book Clubs. If your child would like to purchase their own copy of their book club book so they don't have to share, that is AWESOME! Ask your child about what book they are reading and what they have read so far!
Ask your child about...
- How many iReady lessons have you passed this week?
- What was a possible theme in the drama, Aladdin Jr?
- What was the poem, "How the Leaves Came Down" about? What was the literal meaning vs the figurative meaning?
- What ideas have you brainstormed for your opinion essay?
- What is the difference between a prose, poetry, and drama?
- What's in the reading tab of their binder? ELA tab?
Reminders:
- If you have a dismissal change/absence please contact the front office.
- Check agendas, Google Classroom, and our homework website for practice opportunities for Unit 3! A hard copy of the practice choice board was handed out last week!
- Thankful for Reading Day on FRIDAY! We will be reading to a first grade classroom (Mrs. Noles.) Have your child bring in their favorite story book to read!
- Thank you for bringing in cans for the food drive! The last day to donate is on Monday!
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Have a fabulous week!
